WKNO TV, channel 10 is Memphis' Public TV station.  It was begun almost 50 years ago by a group of community leaders to serve the mid-south with quality educational and news programs.  Community financial support represents about 76% of WKNO's annual budget.  A major portion of this funding is raised through on-air pledge drives.  WKNO TV
does not air commercials as shown on cable and satellite channels: hence public support is vital to its financial well-being.
The pledge drives are conducted twice a year, in April and August.  The Indian Community volunteers actively participate in these fund raising activities.  The work consists of answering telephones to  take financial pledges from callers.  Each drive lasts for four hours in shifts of two hours.  Each shift requires eight volunteers to answer the telephones. An added bonus is that all volunteers are shown accepting pledges on live TV.  We are constantly looking for new volunteers including teenagers.  Come join an exciting event, raise money for a good cause, be seen by your friends on TV and have fun!
